So tell me, how do you tigten the caps? Did you run all the bolts down by hand, then turn them all say, 1/4 turn at a time in a pattern progressinig outward till they're all run down flush? Or did you just start tightening one of the caps down? Cause if you don't do it evenly, you put a ton of stress on the cam and it could certainly be enough to bend an aluminum cap or break the cam.

I did this with 1/4" ratchet, And yes, I did the the whole center and working my way out back and forth.

So when you started at the center and worked your way out, how much did you tighten each bolt? Not trying to be an ass, just wondering if you did this wrong or if the cam was actually defective, as I've never seen a cam fail that way that didn't involve human error.

I don't know how a cam breaks like that - they are pretty easy to break, but it's always at the side of the lobe and not across it.   I'd say there's something wrong with the cam before Delta touched it, so don't get your hopes up, but call and ask wtf anyway.

well how do you over tighten bolts that arnt tight pat? i have installed probably 20+ sets of cams and never  had a problem, yes pat i know how to install cams, pat im not trying to be an ass eather by saying this.

Well i just got off the phone with scott at delta and he said that its not normal that the cam breaks across the lobe like that, he said that it was eather a install error, or casting flaw. But he said if i brought it to him he would figure out whats up and eather give me a new one for free (if casting flaw) or cut me a smoking deal of $50ish if it was my fault. Eather way, im getting a new cam and throwing it in next weekend.

I just find it hard to belive that some little ass 4mm bolts, and some alum cam caps could bust a steel cam in half across the lobe like that. Im leaving the houe right now to head to delta. Ill update you guys here in a few.

You know if you busted it or not. If you did it right like you said, then it can't be your fault and you should know that. I've tried snugging cam caps down too quickly and had the cam bind up. Nothing broke, but it pretty damn obvious I'd gotten in a hurry and messed up.

Hope they get you fixed up.

the guys at delta are as cool as they come. Fucking A+ to those guys. They said that there was something fucked with the cam core and asked me if I had 20 min while they ground me a new one. So we loled about bizzymoto and his 702whpowwwrz with piss injection. Some free stickes, and an invite to come down and hang out with them when they open there new shop in march. They just picked up a whole other shops worth of stuff, and are going to start doing head porting. Cant say enugh good things about those guys.

88dx, they are moving just down the street to a shop thats about 3000sq ft larger and twice as tall,

corey, it probably was me, i was there bullshitting for like 45min, got there around 2 and left around 3.

only, i still have one half of the cam, the owner looked at me and said "you want half of this for a paper weight?" so i kept the longer one, and he put the shorter one on the wall with the rest of the fucked up shit. i will take a pic of it tonight, or tomorrow.

On a good note, i put the new intake cam in and it didnt snap in half =) so now i just need to fire it up and keep it above 2500 for 15-20 min to break in the new cam.

You'll get the same mpg if you tune the car, you neanderthal.  A lumpy cam generates less vacuum which will cause it to run rich if you're using a stock fuel map.

Tell them your setup, and your Buddie was just in the other day with the busted honda cam. Talk to Scott, or I think the owners name was Dan... But Im not sure. I mentioned about your largness while I was there. We also Talked about his ex-wifes new boyfriend/husband. LOL Hes on this forum and thats all I have to say about that.

Its ok,  (Dave) is gona tune it, and im only pulling something like 15-20mpg in town right now because I only dive it like 400-500 miles a month. And its always warming up.....lol
