Here is something to think about how many old pitbulls do you actually see that just die of natural causes. My dad's just past away she was a little over 10 years. I cant think of to many other cases and I grew up in the poverty of California where every dumbass had these style dogs.



The majority of these dogs will be put to sleep. The dogs of any bull breed requires alot of exercise, walks, etc. If not they will get out of their yards always. The dog is not right for I would say 90 percent of owners who first get them. You will see people get them and you will hear every story why they had to get rid of them. The are destructive, aggresive etc. This is basically true since the dogs need to not be worked literally. My dad's little black pitbull was the official running dog of my neighborhood. If wanted to take a couple mile run you brought Ti with you. Thats what the bull breed dogs need to not become the problem they are today.


I will be honest and say if people think they can handle a pitbull or bull breed style dog take my advice and look when you walk around and see how many older pitbull style dogs you see. No gray on their coats or just older looking dogs. I've seen it quoted a few times and am not sure on the original source or how the information was calculated, but supposedly 1 out of 600 pit bulls actually live with their owner until they die.  Seems a bit crazy but at the same time seems very believable.  My roommate is a dipshit that finds humor in being overly rough with his dogs and not training them really at all.  Piss on the floor?  Beat the shit outta it (in his mind).  They're all fucking pussies that cower whenever you get near them, and recently he "got rid" of one of his dogs by leaving it to roam outside because "it wont stop shitting on the floor."  So glad he has no interest in a pit bull.

Definitely not a breed for everyone.  Fortunately mine is pretty calm and never went through a destructive phase, but people like to get these as lawn ornaments or jewelry and not as a pet.  They're one of the few true working dogs that hasn't been fucked by AKC "show standards."  There's quite a few competitions that have resorted to only allowing "traditional" breeds because of the ass-whooping pit bulls were handing them.  I'd like another to give my dog something to do, but need some space for them to run first.

I have a dog (there are pics and a vid of her, in the dog thread) that we thought might be a pit cross when we got her from the pound, as she has grown up, I think she is more likely a whippet/dalmatian cross. As many people from this board that have met her can attest she is full of energy all the time. Not only that she is incredibly thick headed. She is a handful and a life style, it forces my fat ass to get up and take her for walks, or throw a ball, or just wrestle with her in the living room. This is my wifes first dog, and has been a great learning experience for her, but I would have never picked a dog like this, if it was only going to be her looking after "ate" (yes my dogs name is ate, it is pronounced ah-tey and in Greek mythology she was the Greek god of mischief. I was fortunate enough to have an ex that bread shepherds that are on current active duty with the RCMP, as well as the coast guard, and other search and rescue organizations. My ex was a great teacher of what a dog needs, not only to be healthy but happy.

If you are thinking about getting a dog, get one that fits your lifestyle, not just because you think it looks cool.

I have a bully cross Rhodesian ridge back and its a good friendly dog around family and friends but it is very territorial when anyone it doesn't Know is around. The fucker also jumps my 6 foot fence and has a kill list from going on walks at the beach- 2 ducks, 1 sea gull, 1 snake, 5 possums, a lizard and a few rats. They banned pit bulls over here but people just register them as a staffie cross's now.

I'm not a dog person but I used to have a bunch of dogs when I was a kid. with this whole pitbull thing I think it's a shame really. They should ban black people and get to the source of the problem. Instead of killing innocent dogs.

our city banned them in city limits a few years back. they can shoot them on site with no reason. i think its pretty stupid though. jose had a really cool dog that was part pit and he had to get rid of her. pretty messed up, she was a cool dog.

Goforth's Pit, Hitler, was tearing the shop apart if left alone for two hours.  He started leaving the television on and the dog just curls on the couch and chills.  While some large part of them needs physical activity, it is also a large part that they need mental stimulation.

Might explain why my dog has never been destructive.  I have always given it plenty of shit to chew and my floor is covered in toys.  When I'm home she's pretty content with laying on the floor near me.  Have never had anything destroyed other than I *think* a few buttons on my shirts.  I don't know if the washer/dryer is eating them, or if it's the cat or dog.

Cliffs:  In my county a dog-fighting ring was broke up.  50 dogs seized, half died of disease/injuries.  21 adults (who were euthanized) and 4 pups were left.  A lady from Crestwood hospital adopted 2 and a military family and other person adopted the other 2 puppies.  The hospital worker (Sheila Tack) visited them frequently until the court process was done and she could take them home.  Was taken to court because the city council said they were a danger to the public, and the circuit court judge (who I've met in court ) ruled in Tack's favor that she could take the puppies.  City appealed and it was sent to the state supreme court.  At this point, a Seattle, WA group got involved since Tack did not have a lawyer.  PETA (People for Euthanizing Tame Animals) sided with the city.  Dr. Alan Jones (who just happened to be my vet when I first read about this) also supported Tack.  Tack's side (WAF) provided actual data based on experience, while the city only had anecdotal evidence from media-hype.  Supreme Court ruled 7-2 in favor of the puppies being adopted under the fact there's no scientific evidence proving that the breed is genetically inclined towards human aggression.

It's about time someone did something about these menace dogs.  I only wish they'd ban crxes and modified civics next.  That would really clean up the city.
