is that the manifold that CS addict made?
-
Well i purchased the complete block from a guy in vancouver WA, it had about 2000 miles on it if that. Unsure of the block being decked or not The cams are not degreed, wasnt sure if spending money on cam gears would be worth it or not. Yes the manifold was built by Dave. Top notch welding right there.
Im drunk and Jenna (feona) ius throwing up right now
DAve, the manifold is fucking sweeet, your welds are amazing O0. Ill try to keep this updated. HOPEFULLY ill have this setup in and running in about 2 or 3 weeks, all i need if my intake manifold and TB bored and shit and ill be ready to go. But it dependsa on my work schedule
-

PARTIZAN, I don't think you will find your half russian flag icon very welcome here. Though many of us dislike the direction of this country, the American flag still stands for freedom and should never be in any way associated with communism
-
sick is that a vgt holset your runnign?

I meant a pic with the bar off and the intercooler hooked up. What dimensions are the intercooler?
-
sick is that a vgt holset your runnign?
no, its the he351 from the cummins 5.9, the vgt came off the 6.7

I dont get what your saying still, What bar are you talking about?
-
Front bar=front bumper lol. Sorry for the confusion, Im just trying to work out how big the intercooler is and how you hooked up the intercooler pipes with out having to cut huge holes in your bumper. I want a nice stealth install like that for my ef im building. :P

Well i gave you the dimensions, i didnt cut a damn thing on my bumper. Only thing is that the charge pipes are going to be a bitch because of the fog lights.
Other than that i took out my power steering cooler that was behind the ac and just looped it(because i really dont need my PS to be cooled) and i think i moved one of my horns over just a wee bit. I marked the center between the headlights and marked the center of the cooler and wa la, fits good but not perfect, but its better than a mangled front bumper and it will hide my intercooler well

sick is that a vgt holset your runnign?
correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't most vgt turbos internal waste gate free?

thats an awesome build man, love the piecut downpipe  :noel:

So this friday i started ripping the stock motor out of the rex, by midnight friday the motor was out and it was time to sleep. Saterday i kinda cleaned the engine bay up a little and ran my wideband so it tucked close to the frame of the car in the engine bay, Converted to obd1 and finished welding my downpipe and dumptube. spraypainted and heatwrapped on sunday and today my camera decided to hold a little bit of battery power so i could actually turn the fucking thing on.
All im waiting for is my intake manifold and alternator and this bitch is going in. Ill take pics of the monster TB when it comes back with the intake mani. Thanks Chris :noel:
4" Downpipe clears the radiator by about 1/2 inch O0 with no gangster lean

just put your idle at aboutt 500. if you can keep it running, it sounds wicked at a stop light
-
Ran into a couple problems while starting the motor, ordered the parts today and should be good to go mid week. Start up sounded beefy and loud
-
updated with startup vid on the first post.
Ordered ectune last night and ryan is coming over tomorrow to light tune this thing so its drivable. More vids and pics to come
-
seems to idle ok, i bet that fucker is insane rich lol
-
Nice build ;) loving that dump pipe.
-
so we got the fucker running yesterday. firing order was wrong, corrected it and she fired right up and purrrrrrrred ;)
did a little street tuning as well as some boost just to get it relatively driveable. runs pretty damn good, pulls hard for only 5.5psi
-
I was going to say in the video it sounded like something was really off but then again bad sound quality does that too.
-
pulls hard for only 5.5psi
Clasic line, than thing really kicks....lol

Driving Sunday afternoon, first gear ripper then my car goes limp and dies. Pull over and try to figure out wtf is wrong, tow it home and figure out i dont have any spark. Take the dizzy off and try to crank it over, notice the car is turning over but the intake cam moving. take the valve cover off to find that these awesome crower cams decided to break in HALF. Not one cam, but both.
ill get shitty cell phone pictures up when my phone wants to cooperate with me and my computer

OEM honda wins again. . .
sorry about your luck best of luck fixing it up quick
-
2 broken cams, and at least 4 bent valves. shitty luck
this thing is hotrex status
-
I have crower cam too, I hope they wont fail :?: Nice setup btw! Good luck!
-
How old are the crower cams? Many of the early ones from atleast 5+ years ago were prone to this
For the dohc vtec b series crowd just buy ctr/itr cams and call it a day.
-
Not sure how old the cams are, but the part number is 63401-t2, Im not sure if those are the older crower cams or not, because ive seen the same crower cams with a part number that starts with a b.
I called crower multiple times and they have yet to return my call. >:(
I wouldnt be too pissed but some of my valves are fucked and the pistons are knicked, plus Cool Desert Nights(local car show) is coming up in a month and now im going to miss it. If crower even knocks off money to replace mine i would be content. Well see. pics to come shortly

same part #
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1961769 (http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1961769)
looks like there are a LOT of people that have had that problem
-
Those cams looks IDENTICAL to mine, broken in the same spots
Maybe ill go with Brian crower instead, havnt seen anything about his cams snapping, plus his customer service seems to be better
-
Mine are 62402-t2
Mine are for LS tho

Hotrex got an entire Crower valve train setup with Crower cams and ran it and blew all the exhaust cam caps apart. I wouldn't buy shit from them.

Crower or Brian Crower?
seems like when brian worked at crower he was the guy to talk to to get your shit back up and running.

Im banking brian crower and crower use the same cores to grind on
-

Yeah I would bet that as well, as iirc crower cams was started by brian crowers old man, and brian was into sport compacts, so they started the brian crower so he would have something to do. Or so the internet legend goes...
-
ITR/CTR cams, cant go wrong with OEM
-
and now for some cell phone pics,

he had brian crowers.
lie everyone else said just get itr's. proven to work
-
Good bye nice high comprecion valves.
-
loving the gangster lean on the valves
-
talked to dave crower today, asked me to mail him the cams and he said hell see what he can do for me. Mentions that my valves were screwed and he said he might replace the cams and possibly the valvetrain
Soo if he will replace the cams, should i put them to use or should i sell them and get oem's
-
Good bye nice high comprecion valves.
WTF?
-
You want true reliabilty get itr/ctr oem cams
-
man looks like i wasnt the only one
-
Good bye nice high comprecion valves.
WTF?
See how they aren't dished like oem valves?
-
Damn shitty luck on the cams :-\
-
Perhaps a bad set of cores they know about hence why crower is being very cool about this. I know the first couple batches of crower, skunk cams back in the day all either went flat or did what happened to both you and hotrex.
For the dohc vtec motor crowd from b/h/k there all is OEM upgrades so IMO unless your doing an all motor build even then I love ctr cams in B motors no need to run aftermarket camshafts.
http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/VtecCams.htm (http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/VtecCams.htm)
For all you guys who dont want to get shafted when buying used ctr/itr cams great simple ID pics. Yes they are correct.
-
If Crower sends you a new set of cams in exchange, sell them on HT and get a set of CTRs
Crower cams are mad tyte

Brian Crower grew up at Crower Cams & Equipment Company, where he headed up the Crower Sport Compact division since its inception. With Crower Cams heavily focused on the V8 market, Brian saw an opportunity to truly support the needs of the Sport Compact community. With the support of his family, Brian Crower Inc. was formed to deliver the highest quality internal engine components for a variety of popular engine platforms

Since there's obviously a family tiff, who do you believe? That's right - neither of them.
Crower VTEC cams have always been prone to breaking, they mostly fixed the problem 5+ years ago to the point where Skunk2 Pro's were a less reliable cam. Recently they released a bunch of blems - either old cams they sat on for years, or another batch of crapola - and there are a lot of cams breaking. For SOHC or LS, their stuff is quality.
Brian Crower cams are, honestly, not the biggest on the market. They are very much marketed at the streetcar crowd, and as such they are a good value. Josh's LS is the first set of Brian Crower's I have seen or heard of breaking... the fact that Josh was involved leads me to believe it was installer error, or he got a "sweet deal" on the head/motor which had different caps swapped onto it at some point.
Everyone recommending GSR/ITR for a turbo vehicle is correct.

Oem may be the way to go, but those crower cams ripped fucking tits in vtec. compared to the CTR cams i got right now, crower blows them out of the water as far as performance..as far as to the point where i cant tell if vtec is engaging, or if the cams just dont even come close to comparing.

Josh's LS is the first set of Brian Crower's I have seen or heard of breaking... the fact that Josh was involved leads me to believe it was installer error, or he got a "sweet deal" on the head/motor which had different caps swapped onto it at some point.ill vouch for this. power to the vtec solenoid, clean screen, everything as far as i can tell kosher and when VTEC engaged with the Crowers it was a completely different ballgame than with the CTRs

I know Brian crower was very deep into drugs for years his old man use to bad mouth him to hickman all the time since dave use to get alot of one off grinds for some very large one off style all motor builds.
Brian was also a dick to deal with when I would get regrinds from them along time ago. He always tried overcharging me.

Looking at pictures of him that comes as no surprise.

Well i finally shipped my crower cams in to maybe get a refund or another set of cams
Talked to louis from crower today, They got my cams and they wanted to inspect them tomorrow and that i need to call them back tomorrow. I sent some of the valves along with the cams. Hopefully something comes from this :-\
Also, i mentioned that I wasnt the first person for this to happen to and they tried to deny it and say that its very rare ::) . Then continued to ask me where i read it at and so on. Fuckers

lol a simple search on Honduh Tech will yield plenty of threads on the subject, as well as many people providing pics

Maybe as jd pointed out they sold out some old inventory. This was a problem when vtec billet camshafts first came out but that was a long time ago. Either way atleast they are working with you. Hopefully it was a small batch so this doesnt happen to anyone else.

What is the serial code on those cams? I have Crower turbo cam too, I don't want them to break in half ???
-
I dont recall them every having problems with the sohc or non vtec dohc stuff

Thanks, I was drunk and angry ~4 years ago, and that was the result.
-
Well you should be able to flip the cams for that price and make a couple bucks.
So when was the last time hands on people have seen crower cams fail? Obviously we have 2 cases here on the board.

I think its just random numbers, well thats what google tells me. 90% of the people that this happen to may not be on forums
-
Everything I have touched for b series always gets ctr cams since it never seemed worth it watching all these very pricey builds going down the drain from cam failure.
Ill agree with the not on web forums builds. Some of the nastiest k series stuff will never be seen on the interwebs.

I've only seen a Gude failure, but it was an older SOHC and the owner might have run it low on oil. Travis Grimm broke an early set of Pro2's. Never seen a Crower break outside of the forums... but I've never seen a Crower B-VTEC cam ever. I have seen 20+ sets of Crower 402, 402T, 403, 404 as well as five Crower stage 2 turbo and a single Crower stage 2 NA. All great cams.

O wait, I take it back those things suck. You better send them to me for proper disposal as they can contaminate everything the come in contact with.

Reading a post the other day on ht about some guy wanting to do a conversion and people were making all sorts of retaqrded remarks.
Dump tube is geting re routed this weekend (caugh caugh) to exit out passanger tire area. Still need to get some part throttle stuff done because im rich as hell cruising.
