If your doing new rings is say ball hone it at least; will really prevent oil consumption...  But the Jew in you may keep its hold... Lol

you know, i have never had a problem with this.

Dave Lee even noted on my 392whp B16A that it didnt blow oil at VTEC crossover. nice looking OEM hone. used Endyn forged pistons, new NPR rings (with widened gap), same compression across.

B20VTEC, 220whp NA motor, no hone. new RS cast pistons with there Hasting? rings. same compression across

B18C5, no hone, new NPR pistons/rings, perfect compression across. even after year of boost. (got better actually)

even the random ass B18C that went into the ITR when i first turboed it was on its Honda hone. made 300whp with no issue.

only ones i have honed are the ones that looked shit to begin with. B18C that i never ran, my D16Y8 thats in my CRX didnt look too bad, but i had the hone. so i gave it a quick scratch.

since its up for debate tho... i already have pics...

looks rusty/nasty in the pics? lol.

i have looked into hones, before i took it apart tho... fuckers are expensive for a 320+ 87mm. dont think i spent that much for my 75mm.

left side of cylinder says its going egg shape on you...   starting, but it is.  roughing these areas up will let the rings seat into the misshapen walls better...   but only a dial bore gauge will tell you if its egging....   it could have been the slugs; but everytime I see it develop a line of smooth i have found egging happening.

but alas;  I have put several very screwed up engines together and they are still running;   reused rings;  basically took it apart, slapped in bearings...  i still havent brought myself to assembling a junk motor yet;  threw out my excess of parts I could have done it with too.

Id say try it;  you can always redo right? lol

 :noel:

but...

not overly impressed by them sitting next to the PPA's.... they are actually a c-hair narrower (1mm), little thicker (2-3mm). but the shoulder at the bottom starts sooner, and is thicker, also thicker around the crank.

BTW:  K-series uses C-clips on the pistons. just pull a clip out, apply a little heat, and tap the pin free.

Its crazy how small those d series look a like rods are. I figured the K rods would be alot larger than that.

im gonna try and dig up a evo8 or evoX rod to compare these to i think. pretty sure evo8 rods where pretty GSR'ish. and they put down 500s stock... evo x has put down 681 stock oilpain to VC.

or fuckit. ill throw it all together this weekend... idk. who cares. im still gonna boost the shit out of it. this are "stronger" than the older TSX rods, and those are stronger than CRV rods, and i have seen several of those in the 400-500+ range....

so game on.

btw with the stock CRV/PPA pistons ill be sitting around 9.7:1 compression. and really these sound like the best ones to run anyway. TSX ones get you like 10.5:1 which i would boost anyway. but also, i just happen to have teh baller "50* VTC" this thing advances/retards the intake cam. the TSX will hit piston around 45*. the CRV is a good block they say cuz you can slap a K20A2 head on it without worries of piston/valve issue. i will be running K20A2 cams (in stock CRV head). so... all is good, will be baller. and all done on the cheap. lol.

If you see a set of K20A3 pistons for nig nog pricing, let me know.  Don't necessarily need the rods.

A3's preferably, planning on sticking them into an F23 on stock rods.

another parts update...no work ::)

so was reading something online. ended up ordering...

so i can lube threaded parts. i use red permatex shit for moving parts. i have 2 different kinds of that, one is thinned out with some 5w30, one is straight up. depending on what im putting it on.

think i said i ordered valvetrain parts. cuz im not running those intakes. im throwing them away. exhaust valves are forsale tho.

btw. all the springs look to be red? that right? all the same?

K24A2 valves, springs, retainers, seats, locks.
K20A2 intake/exhaust cams

that was $95 shipped if your keeping count.  :Jew:

thats it for now. pics might be better from here out. i bought a new phone, old one was getting old lol. 8mp now ;)
no pics of that, cuz, well i take pics with it lol. if you care, its a Samsung Galaxy S III. rooted and flashed, cuz i feel i need to modify and take everything apart...

ok, there is a good answer for that. evident by the fact that i have 3 cars/projects. i have some ADD. and that really doesnt help when gathering parts for a build. cuz i just buy random ass shit and the car takes forever to move (CRX).

so i have made a list. simply called "ORDER" lol. everytime i think of something i wanna buy, i check the list. not at the top, ehh, ill probably pass. so things like AEM/turbo/etc have moved way down, cuz i dont need them yet. oh, nor do i have 800bucks for the 35R i want. but soon as this tranny sells im buying this 35R or a new 6262 from Mike at LSD.

things up next are timing chain/tensioner. clutch disc. mounts. then i can finish motor assembly, bolt motor in car, test fit.

figured out? no. good idea, maybe.

i will be building my own harness. no fancy RyWire shit. just electrical tape and split loom. i think i have all the connectors. i just need to figure out what injectors im running, and how im running it in the chassis.

oh and im still missing a plug!...

^^^^^
that one.

i got a post in the classifieds. but it should come off the floor harness of any 4cylinder civic 01+, everything else 03+?  its an ECU plug obviously.

ok, so yeah i have lots motivation lol... but i was talking with a buddy last night, got me a little motivated to do something...

so i have been lightly harassing one of the kids at work, sometime last week (remember, motivated) he points at the flywheel under my desk :)

yeah he left some hot/low spots. i owe him lunch, dont expected perfect. i want it to work. lol. 6puck is gonna cut the shit out of it anyway.

noticed this thing hanging around. fuckin minty 09 CRV cover. should be, car only had 500miles on it lol. not sure what im doing with this or the uglier 03 CRV cover.... think they are gonna need AN fittings, and one OEM B-series kinda black, and the other something obnoxious.

i cleaned the shit out of the pistons. chiseling out carbon out the ringlands and shit. hate. once i was done i cleaned them, then decided to try and hang one...

wasnt that bad...

ok a couple more...

new rings... threw those on. and put all the bearings in the rods and mains.

then threw the crank in all lubed up and bolted down the main gridle.... *NOTE, I NEED TO TORQUE THIS*
[insert pic i didnt take]

thats it. im done for tonight...

did some work... went light on the pics tho...

i checked the ring gap. its a little bigger than what i found for a 87mm bore. but just a hair...

this is how i clock all my rings.

i always put them on the exhaust side. i think i have a theory, but either way. thats where i put them. your not suppose to put then on a thrust axis. so NO 12/6 or 3/9... i just put the oils wherever, just make sure they arent in a line. and aimed away from the crosshairs.

this is the spring compressor i always use. in 10 years i have broken 2 rings (both the second ring, its a brittle iron). both times i just picked a ring off old piston. ehh. rings usually arnt "bad" from what i have seen.

used this way too many times. always say im going to buy a ARP/Wiesco perfect fit one...

all done. spins over great. nice and smooth with a little ring drag...

TSX rods to 27ft lbs + 120*
CRV mains to 22ft lbs + 56*
all the 12mm heads to like 16lbs

thats all for tonight. forgot about that giant ass brick of oil pump...it can wait for tomorrow/later.
