I just went though all 10 pages and IMO feeling super inspired!

It's crazy looking back.  Not being an architect, contractor, or landscaper I could would never have pictured everything turning out how it has especially doing it all ourselves.  But it worked out just piece by piece along the way. I'm happy with the way things are turning out.  The actual driveway is going in then the garage is next so that will be fun.

Anybody have suggestions on good garage cabinets and work benches?

Every garage needs at least 2 fire proof cabinets for chemicals.
That's all I've got for your cabinet and work bench question.

It's been a while so it's update time.  Started on a patio and walkway over the last week.  When I finish graded the place I had an area compacted and put in stone instead of topsoil.  This made it easy cause I pretty much already had a base.  Back patio 16'x17':

Used concrete sand and rented a tamper for everything.  Pavers are EP Henry, 6 different sizes in a random pattern with a 6x9 cobblestone boarder:

All pavers laid.  I still need to fill in the cracks with sand and backfill around the edges:

Front walkway:

56" wide, 65' long with only 3 different sizes in a random pattern:

9' x 10' landing:

I kept it simple and didn't do any crazy cuts or anything.  It's nice with pavers if you ever want to change anything you just need to pull them up and move them around.  That's all for now

Thanks.  Without doing a bunch of crazy curves that saved a ton of work.  I was able to get the whole back patio done in 1 day.  the walkway was spaced out over a Sunday and a couple nights after work.  The actual laying of the pavers goes pretty easy

I have two of those so called dogs, can not stand barking and getting hyper when they know a member of the family just drove up.  :?:

But they do have their playful and lap dog side about them.

I rather have another Karelian Bear dog, my last one I had for 13yrs. and he was the best.  :noel:

Trevor has a wiener dog and he doesn't bark/piss/shit in the house. I only spent a weekend with him and Gus but he was fucking awesome.

My wife got the dog.  I didn't want a dog and I was never a dog person.  But this one grew on me.  Its a purebred blue and tan dapple dachshund.  Doesn't bark or shit in the house so I guess I got lucky.

8 weeks old:

That is a nice crib man, good work! Something like that would be about a million bux here. Not looking forward to spending that but eventually I will have to. Do you plan on a detached shop on the property or are you keeping all projects in the basement?

Update: installed under counter lights.  I was looking at SeaGull Lighting but they came out to almost $1,000 for what I wanted so instead I tried making something myself homemade style.  I bought some 12V LED strips of SMD3825's in warm white.  Cut some aluminum to mount it on and soldered the cuts together:

Tested with 120W power supply:

Before drywall I ran 14/2 wire to a box in the basement so I wouldn't have to mount power supplies in the cabinets:

Mounted power supply on a beam in the basement:

Shrink wrapped and added connectors to the wires coming thru the wall under the cabinets:

Mounted everything:

Results:

With the power supply I can add another row of lights and double the output. I may add some more here and there but I think it turned out good for now.  I have a total of $33.00  in everything.  These LED strips are great, I'm thinking of putting some above the cabinets.  Not sure if it would look stupid

Looks killer. I don't think I would mount above unless you could dim them lower then lights that are under the cabinets.

Latest project is putting a fireplace in the basement.  It's a woodburning stove connected to doublewall chimney pipe.  The start:

Built a platform that would become the hearth and the stove would sit on.  Built a surround out of block.  Used 6" block and 4" block above the lintel.  Connected everything to the chimney pipe:

Starting on the stone to finish it:

Current progress.  Put a 2x6 on as a nailer for an eventual mantle.  Still not sure what style I should make:

That's all for now.  Still have a bunch of stonework to do.  Hopefully will be done in a week.   More from This Homemade House coming soon.  :mexi:
