I would throw the motor in, run it for a while then boost it.

I love the jewing of cheap slightly broken transmissions.
That's how I funded a good portion of my build.  Buying fucked trans and piecing them back together.

so i cleaned the cases and small parts in the washer at work...

then i cam how and found this on my door step:

see those helical gears? yup... ITR LSD...

$315 shipped  :Jew:

so those are the case housings cleaned up. didnt go crazy. just dropped them in the washer for a good while. as far as im concerned, they cant get cleaner.
so thats the clutch case from trans #2, outer case from #3. and gearset from #3...
hydro case ($50)
S80 GSR gears 1-2-3-4-5-R ($100)
S80 ITR LSD ($315)

but i still have a gearset/outer case/diff to sell, make back lots of my money.... should be 250-300 total into this trans...well shit, forgot about new Honda parts. hopefully just get away with a handful of crush washers and an axle seal that was fubar.

i thought about a non-VTEC 5th gear... but im gonna pass on that. i like having boost super close to me in 5th on the freeway. love a tip in 60-100? kind of passing power in 5th

oh shit... what did i get myself into?!?! lol. you see the tablet on the left with pdf Honda/Helm service manual there to save my ass.

yup... not that easy, i used movie magic  ::)  there where some snags on the way. trial and error.

wow, staining on the case looks way worse with the flash from my phone. anyway. hopefully final assembled. the countershaft circlip doesnt want to seat, so its making the trans hard to turn. fuck. but im done for the day. back hurts. dont want to throw that fucker around anymore. seems like its a bitch to find gears. tested before assembly and it worked mint. hate. gonna look at it with fresh eyes later.

Nicely done. Take out a shim ;)
Also how do you get them apart? You have a press?

you NEED a press for the counter shaft. but for the main shaft it comes apart pretty easy. just turn the shaft upside down and give it a little bump on the bench and the gears will drop off.

i didnt bother with the counter shaft.

Don't need a press.  Most I've ever needed was a gear puller but you could probably set the shaft upside down on the bench and tap the 4 5 gears and bearings off

thanks

undecided. if I work out trans issue, order my jumper, throw timing belt on the motor. I can probably do the swap this weekend. then could always run the fucker on motor and see what that actually puts down. kinda curious.

got something else that may be requiring my money/time. not sure. we will see...

i still own this....  ::)

we start with the trans... cuz its being a bitch. i have had it together and apart more times that i can remember or would care to say.

shifting issue is 2 parts...

one:  i took a good look at the shift holder. it worked on the test, but did look haggard. my other didnt look better. so i filed/smoothed it out. worked better... then when i was at work i checked the price of a new one, fuckit, ordered it up. my price was like 12bucks?

new change thing. throw out bearing. drivers axle seal. little boot for the shift shaft. handfull of washers for trans.
like 88bucks... fuckme.

two:  for some reason (im sure me with a hammer) the 5th gear syncro was stuck on the gear. like it wasnt free to move about. so it was locked out of 5th gear. maybe the slider/hub wasnt cooperating also, but got it all moving nicely now.

but

i have LSD trans now... so in the end it was worth it?

here we have UREA grease...

put it on all contact points, pivots, shaft.... you would know this if you read the service manual btw  ::)

oh and btw

USE HONDABOND HT... for the trans case, upper water housings....whatever you might need silicone for... NOT red/orange/black/nasty shit you find at the auto parts store...fuck.

got all the little brackets, VSS, backup switch, mount, shift fork booty. all installed ready to go...

shit, since it photo bombed the trans, i picked up that ACT HDG6 and ITR flywheel a while back. has like 1000miles on it...
$200

moving down the to-do-list...

got some Evolution IX pink top 560cc injectors.. bored out the o-rings the same as you do with DSM450s...
spent $50

installed in manifold, and manifold installed...

timing belt up next..

new covers. old ones where fucked/tweeked. think i already priced those.

FUCK YOU, you get locktite bitch. i had one of these come out before. i dont trust them anymore.

yup.
picked up that alternator in some deal for couple items, one was actually needed for a buddy. so think im like 10bucks into that OEM Honda alternator.

oh yeah. so check this out. i used some of the good old RHMT 3M Window Weld on some mounts or something... there was half a can, and im a jew. i could tell it wasnt solidified. so i wanted it. but wouldnt pump out. was stuck, and bending my gun trying...

i cut that bitch open :Jew:

gonna need a little cleanup when it drys lol.

already done.

guess im talking about mounts...

i bought this off a buddy also.
think i paid $80... got those other 2 mounts with it. window weld im calling FREE

looks like im out of pics...

i did adjust the valves also on the motor.

i need to look, but i dont think i have a spare engine mount bracket.... surprisingly lots of little things you see above was dug out of totes in my garage or stolen/donated by totes in my buddies garage lol.

little progress update...

i ordered this last week, it wondered all the way across the country, then headed back to FL...wtf? so he sent it to my work, finally got here.

look odd? good, cuz its OBD2A to OBD2B jumper... pain in the ass to find.
$63

why would i want that?

AEM EMS. i bought this box for the EK... fuck him, he didnt get it. then i forgot that it was for 99-01. oops.
$330  :Jew: :-*

traded buddy for this

-10AN or something welded oil pan, and the line around somewhere. cleaned this bitch up good, and bolted it on with new hardware tonight.

as mentioned above posts. i ordered some EV1 quick release injector plugs to swap the OBD2 shit off.
$16

fuck those hokey ass brackets people love to make. much crisper throttle response with the right shit.
like $10

so  im gonna run a better breather setup this time.

drilled some holes in my valve cover, then left it in the parts washer for like all day. it stripped off all the paint, and cleaned out the shit.
like $13 for some fittings and JB Weld.

i bought this Endyn catch can from a friend. figured i should use it on some car...
$50

then i got distracted looking for hardware after finding out that the pilot bearing in my flywheel was rusty/didnt wanna spin so nicely.

getting close....

so i put some work in last night getting the swap ready for today.

threw the clutch on with new pilot bearing cuz the one i had was shit.

threw the trans on with little effort but wasnt a bitch this time.

started pulling the swap this afternoon...

more  O0 :mexi: rigged ass shit on this car. i fuckin hate this kid. plus most the shit that wasnt missing a bolt (several) was way the fuck to tight. not usually a big deal, but i couldnt find my 3/8 to 1/2 adapter for the life of me (found it when i was done for the day of course).

oh it gets worse...

swap is out!!!  ;DDD ::) :o :-* :noel: :Jew:

AC and PS still in tact.

this is where i gave up for the day. got in a little fight with the rear bracket and didnt feel like going any further...

then realized i hadnt eaten all day. and it was like 6pm.

oh i did swap the injector plugs. fixed a couple things on the harness (VSS plug had a pin pulled out :-\)

also went to the junk yard and got a resistor box i forgot i needed (i wired that bitch up too, no cut wires style) and a hood for my CX, cuz it was still missing one... :-X

cuz i said something...

sexy...

day 2 of the swap process. cuz im lazy and taking my time.

Full-Race traction bar. i bought this for the EK, and stole it off it before i traded it.
paid $314 for it tho if your keeping track lol.

Honda MTF  :noel:

oh i bought new Honda cap/rotor/wires also. old tune kit part number for 1997 vehicles.
was like $50

Endyn catch can... place i found to mount it. clears shit ok.
$50

didnt really take many pics while working. but you get the ideal...

money shot  :Jew:

pushed in the clutch and got a pop? seems fine tho? got it started on CROME. cuz i had solid base for it. pretty much started right up. couple funny noises. but idk. seemed that the distributor was making a loud ticking noise. like valve lash, but louder. i was using a stethoscope. went away after about 5-10mins.
clutch pedal seems low. cant adjust. seems to have some oil/grease on the rod. so im probably gonna buy a new one.

trans seems fine. i thought it was gonna be a little bit of a bitch to get into reverse, well, its a bitch to get out of reverse? whatever.

probably try to drive it tomorrow to work.

yup...that's a new one for me... 100% sure it was installed correctly.

good news it did this 1/2 a block from my house (just shifted to 2nd)... then coasted another 1/2 a block... so I just walked back home for parts/more tools...
