oh yeah forgot to add that it (the tubing) would be made from sheet metal.

naw i dont know it was just an idea.

and also as soon as i bent it the sides would be perpendicular and hitting the handle. thus it would
have to be cut to the precise measurements before hand.

i was thinking of bending like 12 inch sections at a time. and welding the halves together.

Unless you are tying to make some ungodly large diameter tubing, I really do not see the point.

Simpler idea:
Press
Ditch the hinges and let your device become a set of dies.

An even simpler idea would be to employ the use of a set of slip rolls. Then you could make all kinds of different radius rolls and even be able to create tapers as well without using an unnecessary amount of materials just to create the machine.

what are you trying to accomplish with this that you cant easily and cheaply buy already made?

im not trying to bash cause i am a big fan of making things yourself, but i usually dont make my own raw materials. it just seems like more trouble than its worth unless you are making something that isnt redily available

The only reason you may want to do this is for oval tubing. But even then you'd need a very long "press", and cutting/welding sheet+round tube would be far easier.
