For a thousand dollars I want more than three tenths and four mph.

Couldnt a few more pounds of boost accomplish this sir?

Absolutely not, I won't have people saying I'm poor and had to up the boost.

Have to be there and run the stuff to know I guess. A stock restalled stall will not take you to 8's. It will drive like complete and utter shit on the road. Have any of you guys drove in a vehicle with a neal chance or other high end converter? They drive like a completely stock stall, until you lay into it. Not this high revving bullshit to drive around. Thats left for relic, cockaroach machines.

you could just get it re-stalled but its not gonna be nearly as strong.

Links please.  Ive seen stock converters (ford mind you) run low 6's in the 1/8th for multiple seasons.

Converters balloon from idiots jacking the pressure to the moon on "built" transmissions with a redrilled valvebody and shimmed accumulators.  The aftermarket supports what people think they want, not what they need.

But hey, if you want to spend the $$$ its your car.

All it does is blow through the converter worse. Running through the traps at 6800rpm in a LS is up there on a stock junkyard build 6.0l. Traps do not change one bit with more boost.

I like to make smartassed comments.

There's a reverse manual valvebody Procharged Mustang at the shop I've driven a bit, I know what a good setup feels like.

I gues i still am doing the cheap setup home made turbo style. I will step up this time and let some else build my trans only because i want overdrive. I dont feel to comfortable with doing the 700r4/4l60e  i have done 2 and they worked but i had issues with the seals and drum springs. Can get a bilt 700r4/4l60e from a  company for 1300 with 2400 stall converter and he boastes it will hold up to some serious power.

cadracer,

If you are going to be racing I would not sell you a Level 2 you need a Level 3.  Our Level 3 700R4, with torque converter up to 2400 stall (no nitrous use) shipping to you in WA to any business address dyno tested and in a real nice crate is $1350.  Call us so we can discuss your application in more detail.

Remember the transmission is only as good as the builder, even if you are using all top of the line components. There is a lot more than just exchanging parts when remanufacturing a transmission. I have been rebuilding high performance, racing and daily driver transmissions for over 26 years and I am a man with integrity. One thing for sure, you will not be disappointed. I am always available to provide technical assistance to help ensure that we setup the right transmission and torque converter for your application.

We build bulletproof transmissions! It is critical that we know how you are running your vehicle and the needs you have for your application. If you're running nitrous, superchargers or turbo-chargers, please be sure to give us this information. We cannot setup the right transmission for your application without this information.

or i will just put in this manual 6 speed trans

Yeah, converters are particular to what power adders you run, if any.

This is what I like about slushomagics.  You really can build one that will hold a million fucking horsepower and actually have it last (probably longer than the motor).

Yes.  I have an 8" converter in my mustang, ordered as a 4k stall, goes to 5k on the TB.  but driving around town, and on the highway it sits in the 25-3500 range cruising nicely even with 4.56's.... till you wack it. ;)  Its a good feeling.

th400 is parasitic overkill for a k24, a 350 or a 475 will take care of that power level no problem

TH350 will keel over past 600-650, unless you're replacing the internals with $$$.

I'm really not worried about sub-50 whp parasitic loss.

yeah i would have to agree on the t-400  instead of the 350 stouter internals. Also i would use a 3600 to 4k stall  because boost will drive it to probably 5. Look into a trans break valve body you will wish you had it after the fact i am.

Where do you expect the motor to start making a shit load of tq at???  Insert stall speed... Higher tq will raise stall of a said converters rating a bit..  TH400 with 8" 4500 stall converter and reverse manual valvebody with brake please... If its gonna be driven on the street I wouldnt go any higher...  SHould be interesting when it locks up a bit... HAHAHAHHA  In a car that light??? OOOOHHHH MMMMMMMM GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Fuck I think Im wet.....

Well, where does it make power?? and more importantly as has been pointed out.. torque?? stall speed is affected by the power you have and don't have. It is also possible have a converter out of the power band (on either side) and it will be lazy. I'd say you want it just on the verge of where it really starts to build power, but have enough stall so that it can actually build boost without moving the car.  It's a lot different than a clutch, and you no longer need(or have) inertia to as great of an extent.  say for example when you shift, what is the lowest in the rpm band you would like the car to go? that is probably close to your desired stall speed.

[also if you're having a converter built, i'd like it to have an anti-ballooning plate, and a to a lesser extent a billet cover(which is actually the back) would do wonders in helping it not explode.]

This is what I have always been told by the old-skool ford guys at work.

The Nova has a 3200rpm stall, but it came with the trans so thats what we ran.  It will fucking move off the line.
