Yeah, Idk about that. Stock ram horn style exhaust maniflods with 2" exhaust pipes. Got a real tight fit with the shock towers and the colum style shift linkage. Gonna try like Hell to get these headers that are under my bench to work. But I'm pretty sure they will hit everything.

So exhaust is bolted on, throttle linkage hooked up...nog style with a welder and a screw and some Honda vlave cover grommets. Tore the alternator apart to fi d out its totally shot, so ill be getting a new one tomorrow. Hei dizzy in and coil power wire re done, new vacuum can on the dizzy too,  Tires aired up, seat bolted in, interior all vacuumed out. A few other small things but they aren't on the list anymore.

Yeah, my uncle had the seats recovered like 2 weeks b4 he passed away in 1986. Shit, the front seat wasn't even bolted in until last night. Needs door panels, and the rear seat shelf cover, sail panels, and a factory dash pad. But other than that its pretty much all there.

Picked up some parts today. Got a new alt, and some starter bolts. Exhaust manifold bolts, tested the starter. Worked on the bench, but who knows once its under load. Need to get a bushing for it. It pretty much sounds like shit when its powered up. Also got a bunch of other small stuff.

Couple of hiccups..... So Went to fit the exhaust manifolds on, and no matter how I set up the alternator bracket i Couldn't get my alternator to fit between the shock tower and the valve cover. Got tired of that shit so I Just ordered a set of corvette style ram horn cast exhaust manifolds. They have the alternator bracket holes cast into them. Down side is that I have to redo my exhaust.

Next problem, went to bolt my new starter in tonight, It looks like I have a 168 tooth 14" flex plate. My new starter is for the 153 tooth 12.75" flex plate. Not a big deal, just swap starters right? But for the fact that I don't have a torque convertor cover that fits over the 14" flex plate. So good luck trying to find one of those covers...... So now I'm stuck with looking through all my parts to see if I have a 153 tooth flex plate, and pulling the transmission and swapping flex plates.

On the up side, I got my water temp gauge, boost/vac gauge and my air cleaner installed. Put my new fuel pump in too.

My tach showed up today, So I'm going to try and install that this weekend. Lots of shit to do, not a whole lot of time.

So I received my corvette style ram horn manifolds yesterday. Bolted them up and the fucking alt bracked doesn't fit it. So Im fucking fed up with it, and decided to go to the wrecking yard today to see how all the old chevs had there's mounted. Since all my parts are left overs that I didnt tear apart. All of the chevys had there alt mounted on the pass side. Opposite of what the nova has. So I went home and dug through my parts bin. Seems I had the parts all along to mount it on the pass side. Had to go to the long style water pump instead of the short style. (short style doesnt have any mounting holes for alt brackets) I also had to buy a different harmonic balancer to bolt the other larger pullys on. I had a long water pump in the trunk of the car. So after all this fighting with it. I have the shit mounted up.


here it is all mocked up to see if it would even fit. Its just mocked up on the old harmonic balancer.

 
new one on left, had to get a new one because the one on the right has rivets that go through it and the pulleys for the long water pump were different and wouldn't bolt up to it.



So I bolted it all up, and figured before I clean and paint it, I better test fit it all.


looks like its gonna work. So Im gonna pull the radiator and fan out tomorrow and paint and clean them up and put it back in for final mounting.

Not much left to do. If all goes well Im gonna try and fire it up this weekend.

So the only thing I'm still kinda baffled on is setting up my vaccum advance on my dizzy. I belive I want to set the vaccum to be post throttle blade but I don't have a vac port on this carb post throttle plate. Only after...

After? So I want it to be advanced a bunch when idling? so say I set my base timing at 12* and my vac can pulls another 16* that would be a total of 28* while idleing. Is this right?

It is meant to add in a bunch of advance under part throttle cruising which is high vac. To set the timing the best method is with a retarding timing light. Set the dial to your desired full advance, in your case around 32°, pull the vac line and get it around 3k rpm to get full mechanical advance in, then adjust the distributor till the TDC mark lines up. You won't have a shit load of advance during cranking cause the engine isn't running, you can have insane amounts of advance part throttle with no issues.

Ok, sweet. Not like the put a jumper in and set it @ 16* at idle like im use to.

There is an idle setting, but nobody does it that way. Lol. To set it at idle, you pull the vac advance line and plug it, bring the idle down to like 300-400 so there is no mechanical advance and set it. That shit really doesn't matter though since you want your wide open advance to be solid. Everything else can fluctuate.

I'm sure the purpose of this car is to drag some, so you can fully set your timing there. Advance timing every run till mph plateaus or falls off, then back off.

If this car ever makes it to the drag strip ill be surprised. Its gonna be a cruiser. That might see a little stoplight to stoplight action. Ill set my final timing on the dyno next month.

So I got the radiator and pulley painted up, alternator mounted up in final spot. Heater hoses done up, radiator filled up, starter mounted, torque converter cover bolted up, pass side exhaust all bolted up. Valve cover breather concted to air cleaner, and a few other little things. Not a whole lot left to do. Gonna try and fire it up Friday.



And the tq cover.....lol well what do u do when your cover don't fit over the large style flex plate? You cut a fucking slot.....

So I went to tighten the starter cable down to my new starter solenoid and the fucker broke in half..... Gay! Already went to the parts store and got a whole new starter. And then I'm just gonna swap the solenoid and take the starter back...lol
