all i know is they are expensive lol used them before though. oh and you can't buy a damn 100watt LED one. at least that i found

If you do the math they do work out to save you money in the long run.  So if you look past big upfront cost they should work out to be cheaper than regular bulbs.  I just ordered a couple to try out.  And you can buy an LED that is the equivalent of a 100W halogen:

http://www.usalight.com/PAR38-LED-Bulb-18-Watt-Dimmable-p/73495.htm

yea its all true, i havent' looked online for a 100watt equiv, didn't see any in the store

Fireplace is installed.  Used Superpro 6" class A chimney vent.  Has 304 stainless inside and out compared to other vent pipe that uses 430 stainless.  So it should outlast the house.  Ran a second flue for the basement but I don't think I'm going to build that until the building inspector is out of my hair.

Is that a gas fireplace? If I were to ever put in a fireplace, I would do a free standing wood stove because they heat the house so much better than a fireplace

Gas fireplaces are for homos:

Fireplaces today aren't like the old heatilator boxes.  Its an EPA rated fireplace.  It burns 75% efficient, up to 100,000 btu (depending on wood quality), has provisions to duct into your HVAC system, burn for 8 hours and is rated to heat 2500sqft.  These things just plain put out the heat.  Plus I liked the look and how much of the room it takes up better than a freestanding.

my inlaws changed out their old huge stove for a new one, they hate it. wish they could get the old one back.

when i'm there it seems to work fine, but they think the old one worked better... not sure

Not yet, probably another 2 or 3 months.  Starting Monday we're digging the trench to finally run the electric from the street.  That was a pain in the ass fuck you 8 month process of dealing with met-ed.  We're also digging the well next week and getting an electrical inspection.  The kitchen is comming the 23rd so I want to have insulation and drywall done.  Here's some updates:

Put in the stairs for the basement:

Most of the HVAC is in.  Got a 4 ton air handler with a 3 ton compressor, electric backup heat but hopefully don't need it with the wood stoves:

After 8 months of trying to get power I think its going to happen this week.  We dug the ditch for the power, they are supposed to run the primary tomorrow:

Also burned some stumps over the weekend.  Suprised how fast they dried out and how easy they burn

If anyone cares we drilled the well.  Was hoping to catch a break and hit water at 75 or 150ft max.  However, we had to go to 400 feet.  We hit 6gpm at 240 and 10gpm at 360.  Drilled to 400 and set the pump at 350.

All the black is the granite they hit.  This whole area is all granite boulders:

Worthless shitheads at Met Ed finally finished and I got electric after 8 and a half months.

Started on the insulation today.  Hopefully have the majority of that done by Tuesday

That's all for now.

Yeah, the drillers always tell you horror stories of when they don't hit water and how much it costs.  So I'm just happy we hit water.  I've got great water pressure and at 400 feet I've got plenty of reserve so I'm happy.  I was just hoping I'd catch a break because its $10.00 a foot

What size well? I knew a guy who had great pressure but not enough volume. So he drilled a 6" well.

If you don't have the volume you can usually put in a tank.  The well has a 6" casing that goes down 60 feet and the actual well is 4"  so the well can hold 260 gallons if it was filled to the top but realistically the water doesn't go to the top so maybe like 230gallons and that isn't including what is in the well tank and hot water heater.

$4,000 is just for the 4 inch well.  Add $15 or $20 (I forget off hand) per foot for the casing times 60 feet, plus the well pump, well tank, permits, water testing, excavation for the plumbing, ect.  It comes out to $9500 total package for the well.

Conductor barrel. 32" pipe, and it was the oil companies money I was spending. Typically it is about $15K, but we too hit granite.

The kitchen shows up tomorrow.  2 cabinet doors came early so here's what they'll look like.  The are cherry cabinets:

I dont really like doing insulation. Bot its better than mudding, tape and sanding. But its always mind blowing how much smaller it feels once you put insulation up.

What kind of siding are you putting up, vinyl?  Do you just hang it right on the foam sheets, or does it go into the studs?  How long can those foam sheets sit out in the weather/sun?

I'm not putting up siding.  The outside will be a mix of stacked stone and stucco.  A layer of wire 30# paper and 3/4" of stucco will go over the sheets.  The foam sheets are double sided in foil and I taped every joint so they are very weatherproof and unless they get damaged by something, the sun and weather won't affect them.

Drywall almost done.  I was away in Ohio all week but the drywallers started on Monday and are almost done.   I was nervous about the quality of work since the Mexicans started the Monday after Cinco de Mayo.

Garage:

Great room/ Kitchen

Hey Stealthmode, you'd be the man to ask.  I've got 9200 sqft of walls (including ceilings) to paint.  I estimated about 60 gallons of paint with 2 coats.  What do you think?  How much would a pro charge for a job like this?  Also, any recommendations on paints and what to do/not to do?
