did i mention that i picked up:

the other short axle and the U-joint flange i was missing for the 8.8? sucked. JY needs to set trucks higher, was damn near in dirt. plus bolts where tight. speaking of, i grabbed the bolts too, hope i havent lost them already.

GAME ON!

thank you USPS Priority mail. most people hate them? but shit shows up in 2-days, not 5-7 of those other retards. i ordered this stuff like thursday night. got it saturday.
anyway. hone and bearings. so it looks like i WILL be cleaning up and starting on my LS6 bottom end this weekend!

so plans for this weekend:
pickup TH400
cut steering shaft?
bolt front sub on for real this time, maybe hang some suspension.
look at front springs, wonder how much to cut. then randomly cut 1/2-1 coil off each...
stare at the spindles, then brakes... think about the magic that needs to happen to mate the two.
clean, hone, clean, clean, then clean the LS6 block...
then clean pistons, maybe drop rings in motor to check gap...then wonder if i reuse or use new ones. and reuse them anyway.
assemble LS6 bottom.
look for and order more parts...  :noel:

i bought a th400. i started cleaning it as it looks like there is a 100k worth of dirt on it and tucked into the corners. usually dont care. but going to give it a once over.

plan to drain it and start taking it apart later today. see whats needed to order.

speaking of which, i dont know much about autos. i need to pick and order a converter. im cheap. so it looks like im going to order a 12" in the $150-200 range. what stall should i be getting? 2200? 2400? 2600?

well that was a waist of time  ::)

granted im not a trans builder, but that shit looks mint. first set still has the numbers visible on them. :D

random pics

i know, not actually a waste. i like taking shit apart. and i like the piece of mind of looking inside. plus im probably doing to do the mods that Jake's Transmission recommends. http://www.jakesperformance.com/TH400_Rebuild_Tech.html <~that if your curious.

so i guess i need valve body gaskets, oil pan w/drain, oil pan gasket/filter, probably a modulator? and a dipstick/tube... oh order a converter once i decide what is needed

also.

didnt bother to steal the mounts of the SBC/PG. mount that came 'on' the trans (half a bolt in dangling) didnt even resemble what i bought as it was so mangled. those where $21.97 at parts store, in stock. lifetime warranty too lol.

The microsquirt blows. i would run hptuners/efilive anyday over microsquirt... MS3 on the other hand is awesome. I will give you a harness and ECM if i must to keep you away from microsquirt.

so. Josh is trying to talk me into a Gold box...

HPTuners 650 bucks.
PSI PNP harness is 550
jew stock harness/ecu about 100...

thats already more than a efisource gold box plug and play at 1225... http://www.efisource.com/shop/ms3-lsx-plug-and-play/

microsquirt will be like 450bucks... but also doesnt have idle, fan, fuel pump controls. sequential injection. traction and boost controls...

what do i really need?.... sure ill be happier with the gold box in the long run...

searching and trying to order shit... all over the charts...

anyway thinking...

awesome how my phone keeps rotating pics...and i dont want to fix it...
anyway i have these to china fans. one is brand new. i have one on my Galant. seems to do ehh, ok in keeping temps at bay (dont think it has airflow when moving) and the other is off who knows? random fan haning around taken off something else. fan that was on there kept temps at bay (when like 75* out) but once it came on, it would pretty much stay on. holding temps around 195-200. it was about 12" with small shroud.
so, 2 of these bastards on there? looks like i have good coverage, and still good airflow when moving? worth a try?

next up:

radiator has trans cooler built in. the Powergilde was hooked up to here... is it going to be legit to hook the TH400 to it also? or should i buy http://www.ebay.com/itm/HAYDEN-26-000-LBS-GVW-TRANSMISSION-COOLER-KIT-1405-OC-1405-/321961835036?hash=item4af66bba1c:m:mzHgCpF5_M38t0iBsotKK9Q&vxp=mtr

Trans Cooler in that radiator squeaky clean?

If yes use with extra trans cooler.

If no use new trans cooler.

A cool and clean auto trans., is a happy trans.  :noel:

so i guess i kinda failed this weekend...

my Comp Eng 'bolt in' sub frame connectors... i will most likely weld these in along with bolting them... but today? i just threw them under the car on what i think are the correct sides.

sweet. picture rotate again... i started cleaning the LS6 up. it didnt seem to have any grease or oil, but lots of dust, dirt, and some rust. i think i cleaned most of it up. scraped and red 3m'ed the deck. hosed off the block and brushed off most the dirt. used about 3 cans of brake cleaner on the inside and oil passages. oh i ran a pipe cleaner thing thats actually probably from an engine cleaning kit, threw the oil/lifter/whatever passages also.

probably hose her down once more with water and brake clean. high on brake clean, think im done for the night lol...

Damn solid work! I'm going the hp tuner route, lt1swap.com has a real simple write up for wiring, also a nice and easy pin out of what you need and dont.

As for dip stick, ebay has a flex one all the sloppy guys run I'll look for a link.

yeah, i remember Matt saying something about them.  have one saved in my watch list. but i dont like chrome.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261927947029?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT that is black and cheaper...

ill see how things play out. i still need to order some stuff. and pick up some stuff from Josh that he has. as far as 'budget' [whatever that is?] is concerned i should have money to spend either way. but im still a jew with plenty of other shit to buy (interior, rear suspension, boost goodies, etc)...

as it stands:
1) MS3 Gold box (1225 & its pnp)
2) GM truck ECU/harness w/HPT (650 + ecu/wiring + lots of wiring)
3) GM ECU flashed with random shit to run/drive. (200ish? + ecu/wiring + lots of wiring)
4) Microsquirt and hope its good enough and better than carb  (390 + easy wiring)
5) old school. holley and msd box  O0  (cheap and no wiring or fuel system really, so i save 400bucks)

so i was just realized i have everything torn apart, and nothing built lol
front end completely gone still, but have 90% to put back together
engine all over the place, but 98% of hard parts, 20% of accessory stuff.
trans mostly apart and all over, forgot to order gaskets/parts (converter) for it.
interior is still missing from when i got her. lol.
so... i should pull the rear end and tank out to make it complete   :?:

just pics...no real update  ::)

my motor. still needs some cleaning before i put her back together. i did however FINALLY get my engine mount conversion plate things. ordered them like Feb 10th, got them today March 3rd.... USPS 2day Priority mail, that took like 4days once ACTUALLY SHIPPED.... oh im not done. they look like shit too. burrs on the back side, little test fit there shows that the holes are barely square enough to get the bolts in (like make sure you just figure tight all them. auction says BILLET, they are water cut steel (based on past items i have bought thats what they look like).

couple random shots of parts in waiting...

more on roof...back seat...front seat... under car...etc  lol.

actual work taking place. figured i would give the valves a cleaning, and a lap in for piece of mind.

think thats all i have for now. going to try to get the heads finished up so i can drop them off to get cleaned and surfaced. clean the block out some more (got some new/more block passage cleaning brushes) and try to get some work on that this weekend. and buy some wheels for my truck...wait, wrong progress...

look at crank closely and decide if it needs polished or thrown in motor.
fail.
fail.
mostly fail. kinda looked at it...threw the bag, still sitting in box. ok fail.

Quote
tomorrow:
call and order trans gaskets/parts
drop heads off and maybe crank
buy wheels for truck
fail.
fail.
win.

finished one head. note to self, buy a valve spring tool 2 weeks ago  ::)

maybe ill get crackin early on the head to get it to machine shop. wont be able to pick them up till next monday anyway.

so maybe tomorrow:
finish head
drop at machine shop
call for trans parts.

valves all lapped to little beyond my normal level of giving a shit. new viton seals installed (btw, Alex ships them all the same, so, yeah). then the new springs/retainers/locks.... now just need to do the other head.

ok, pretty sure i have shown this before. you have all probably seen lapping valves? you chuck the fucker up in a drill, i use a rubber vacuum hose to not marr the valve, give it a spin on the seats with some valve compound. fuck that stupid suction cup thing. use a drill. probably want to make sure you oil the valve stem to not smoke the guides.

anyway. i usually prep the valves before hand. i have used the bench grinder at work (still need to buy one) with the wire wheel. but this time i made a fixture to hold the valve and used my drill. probably safer than the grinder? i wear mechanics gloves to keep the wires out my hand lol. fixture was to speed up process, safer, ads a 3rd hand too.

yeah. so i just drilled a hole in a 4x4 and put it in my vice. just wire wheel the carbon off. this setup holds the valve nicely. keeps your hand away mostly (gloves still needed), make it easy to spin.

so, i should have bought a valve spring tool. not sure what i was thinking. guess i forgot.

so this is NOT THE CORRECT WAY! lol. thats the old school garbage tool from auto parts store. they make a simple ass tool that does exactly what i did here, but cleaner. this left marks on the head, and was finicky and pitches sideways a little. but by the second head i had it down to flat rate status. i went to the hardware store and got a 8.8 bolt and nut that was longer than the factory rocker bolt. was a little bend before i was finished.

DONE! i dropped it off at the shop. he said it would be a week or 2. they are busy.

i called and talked to trans place. think i got my order straight, waiting for him to send an invoice. should be a couple days.

now im gonna go put my new wheels on my truck, hope they fit lol.

ok. plan for weekend:
paint fire wall.
put front subframe on. maybe some suspension pieces.
probably get distracted with brakes.
give up on brakes.
jack up nova as high as i can.
put subframe connectors in place, so i can mark them and remove later anyway
bolt half loaded trans to empty engine, might throw oil pan on too.
stab into chassis, see whats up with everything...mainly trans crossmember.

i want to order shit, but i have so many projects scattered now i dont want more parts lol. fuck. i want to drive my car. its gonna be awesome.
