Jay mine is literally a piece of angle iron with a hole in it. Then I marks the saw for the angle and the angle iron for the length.

This is all part of being a fabricator. You have to be able to think for yourself. Getting inspiration from other peoples ideas is one thing, but you have to be able to get from point A to point D without being able to see points B and C sometimes.

would it be safe to remove the 6 gauge wire i ran to the corner of the basement to use it through the window to run the welder in my backyard?

is there a reason i cant keep moving the cord around flipping between outside and the basement>?

Household wire isn't meant to be moved around a lot and it's also not meant for the elements is would see outside. With that said I don't see why you couldn't do it a few times till you can get a proper extension cord.

wait so it is safe to make an extention cord out of 6 gauge wire for the welder???

someone told me it wasnt :(

lame

ok so heres todays welding try.. i used acetone to clean still dont have the money to buy the proper regulator

anyways todays weld sucked cause i was tired as hell when i was welding and the acetone fuses werent helping.. especially when i brushed/cleaned with acetone between welds and i had a bunch of acetone dump on me so the fumes were raging.. bleh

you shouldnt have to clean off the welds when your done, do you have a fucking flow meter yet?

and youre using stainless filler right?
make sure the filler is clean before you use it, also try to keep your gloves clean.

i think since my welds arent improving and im just consistently laying down more or less the same ecact welds im prolly doing something seriously wrong

i will buy my regulator before the end of this week and ill also have a t setup for the gas line with a cut off valve for my back purge setup ill place the t directly off the bottle

Without a flowmeter, you are wasting your time and materials.

I use dedicated gloves for tig welding and a dedicated bench grinder for my tungsten.

yup dedicated gloves and wheelfor tungsten and wire wheelforstainless only.

buk u either are way too hot traveling too slow and using not enough filler or u are having serious lack of gas coverage going too slow and using not enough filler.

as far as collector jigs go.,..  ill sell u mine.,

16 gauge for charge piping. Material is your choice, mild steel is easier to work with but SS doesn't rust. so you choose. Usually if i get someone who doesn't want to powdercoat there piping or isn't super cheap i just go aluminum. As the price is the same for the most part as SS. And well it's just plain better hands down.

Buk, the way you are welding right now, stay away from aluminum. it is so much less forgiving than steel or SS. i have always done my own in mild steel and painted it, but to each their own

hacking my ass. i looked at my birdshit log mani today and the welds are almost identical.. as far as i know birdshit was a successful fabber seems to me i just need to perfect the bevveling process.. my current bevels are almost non existant if they were better it would tuck away the bead..
