The day at the track the car got really hot on the 5th pass and then temp went back to normal. After making another pass the car overheated and began to knock. The #2 piston/rod is where the damaged occurred. The last build I used an ebay oil pump which did a lot of damage to the cylinder head, specifically the cam and cam caps. I have currently been using an OEM Honda oil pump that I ported and shimmed.

I really wanted to use the same pistons, but, b/c the wrist pin appears to be bent, and the corner of the crown/ringland look damaged, Im probably gonna put a set of Vitaras that have been thermal coated, and a new set of Eagles.

When I was removing the ARP head studs, I noticed pieces of threads that were in the block. I assume that torquing the head over and over to 85ft lbs took its toll. Timesert and Helicoil make kits but are kind of costly. I have to ask the machine shop for the labor rate.

I also removed the thermostat (had to be gutted actually), to help coolant flow jic the overheating was coolant related.

i haven't followed thsi one closely, so bare with my ignorance.  If the block isn't sleeved, then having time Serts(far superior to Helicoils) would cost more than sourcing another block and having it machined.

I know it isn't cheap when we Time Sert Northstars.

Why in the hell were you torquing the head studs to 85 ft-lbs?  D16 studs are only M10, and ARP only recommends 70 ft-lbs with 30 weight oil on the 220,000 psi rated hardware.  The head studs are heat treated to 200,000 pis.

Yeah, I admit I made them too tight. I thought more would cause less head lift but it was the head gasket becoming compressed during the heat cycles.
I have a spare block, but I'm trying to avoid notching the block and girdle for the Eagle rods. Lol

that takes like half an hour with a die grinder on nog setting.  it doesn't weaken anything, why wouldn't you want to do it?

In my experience anything under 75 ft lbs for head torque on a high boost D is trouble.

I used to daily drive my car at 20 psi and it would blow the HG like its going out of style until I started to torque to 85-90.

Never had a problem again. Even on 30 psi.

That's a pretty broad statement, and if head stud torque were your concern you'd know a little bit more about it and be very specific which 85-90 ft/lbs you're talking about, because at the end of the day that very much isn't indicative of the clamping force in the system.

Exactly.

Next thing you know, Honda rods will have weak rod bolts because some riceboys forgot to tighten them.

Listen im no expert. Never claimed to be.

I know I set my fucked up craftsman torque wrench to 90 and go for it. Havent blown a HG since. If it has stayed intact for some other reason all I can hope for is the same gift.

Quit micro analyzing my thread you turd burglars.

I ordered :
a new Eagle rod,
1 SRP piston,
4 new piston rings,
a set of ARP pressure plate, and flywheel bolts,
ACL bearings,
OEM oil pump, strainer, head gasket, oil pan gasket, and a couple of oil filters.

I had a crank polished that I picked up from Ebola last year.

I was given a quote of $20 to coat the piston top with thermal coating, but I may just have him do my turbo housing, and exhaust manifold while he's at it.

Ill post pics up as the toys arrive.

Oh yeah, I spoke to Dennis from B&L Machine shop and he schooled me on o-ringing my block. I have decided to keep it stock and I will get retuned on my new 750cc injectors.
I hope to make it back to the track this year.
