ahhh I thought it just sat on the trailer untill it went to the track. If you have full exhaust ull be fine without ear plugs hahaFull exhaust with no interior still required ear plugs in that thing, it was nasty loud. Apparently 4" exhaust doesn't quiet down shit it just moves the exhaust from the downpipe to the back of the car.

I just finished gluing the stock lip back on. I bought some chicken mesh stuff I am going to put in the bumper as inserts. We will see how it goes. My friend has some SS mesh they use at the mill's in town and it has circle holes in it. Will see how it looks tomorrow. I will post up Pictures and you can decide what to go with

easiest way i found to get those out is to thread 2 nuts on the stud and then tighten them together, then just loosen the nut closest to the head and should come right out.

manual boost controllers are good for as much as you want them to be...
MBC's are as good for as much as you want them to be (depending on the style of MBC), but the gates may not. I have seen numerous times where the waste gates have been pushed open by drive pressure, at which point the MBC is only good to that point. With that being said you can always use drive pressure on the top port of the waste gate, this should let you run till the compressor stalls out or blows up.

If your having issues with tuning big injectors, i have a box that will solve your issues, if it doesn't make tuning your car that much easier, Ã'd be glad to refund your money. And if your on ectune, i could send you a map that should start up and run well. I'm running a set of 2200's at 50lbs of base fuel pressure, my shit starts right up and idles like a champ.

Ive followed your build for quite some time now, just bite the bullet and get the injector dynamic 1000cc injectors, i have a set and it idles e85 perfect, none of that annoying popping and crackling you normally get with the bigger cc low impedance injectors, everything on your build seem top quality why be stuck in the past with old injector technology ;DI would say if nothing else its pretty, but purple really doesnt do it for me.

I use 14-16 gauge extension cable. Cut a 25ft length you stole from the back of a Mexican's work truck in half, solder all the ends into two lugs and treat as one strap. Nick another cord from the local BK when you're collecting stainless dumptube for the other battery terminal, they won't miss it.
Double the amount of copper and the gauge drops one unit. IE-18 gauge has X copper, 16 gauge has 2X copper, 14 gauge has 4X copper, etc.I use 14-16 gauge extension cable. my pops used these (16)injectors on his pro 5.0 car way before Tony1 made them all the rage on H.T, i have said it before these injectors are all the rage and then some, some people might like to be stuck back in 1990 technology but some choose not to, and yes i know all about the shitty fmu like symptoms of a rising rate system but lets face it, if your trying to get 1200 cc+ worth of fuel your probably not running the typical run of the mill broke O0 setup, to me it seems way easier and simplier to go walbro intank to a bosch 044 mounted on the firewall to a set of i.d injectors, no secondary injectors to fail no switch to not engage. something can be said for following the old K.I.S.S method but different strokes for different folks1525cc if you crank the base pressure to be exact ;)

Depends on the fuel you use to test them.
131 psi for pump gas, 101 psi for test fluid/c16. Not many conventional pumps flow that well at such "high" pressures, figure any engine needing that size injector needs 30+ psi resulting in that pressure added on top of the base.
Mister Crane, you've read a lot on the internets but if you'd read as long as most of our OGs you'd be aware of how shitty FMU-like fuel pressures are as your fuel lines become prone to leak and burst. All this aside, it's still cheaper to run a secondary rail that comes on with VTEC, replace factory injector drivers with CS452/CS453, or one of the other tricks that are pretty much commonplace. To verify the ground use an ohm meter and measure the resistance (power off) between the ground of the driver box and the negative terminal of the battery. You should have less than 2 ohms. As a general rule we don't recommend grounding to the engine components because you also have the plugs grounding through it and that can cause noise. At this point it is hard to say what is happening without being able to watch the injector pulses with an osciliscope. It is not a problem we have encountered before so I am assuming it's not the box ... but I can't say for 100%.

My point is and continues to be that dime a dozen turbo B-series Civics with normal sized ICs and no shrouding have no problem with either IATs or with overheating. You can spend more money on such a large core and you can spend more money on fabricating shrouding; at the end of the day you've spent more money and nothing else.
I've been through some 650-800 whp drag Civics that struggle to get up to temperature between passes. That better be some voodoo shrouding because heat has a direct effect on engine life at those power levels.

Hahaha, you really believe this? So a 4 valve head is "new" technology? Electronic fuel injection is "new" technology? Tubular manifolds are "new" technology? Give me a break. It was all designed decades ago. GM LS series engines were engineered with an entirely different design objective than a B18. Both great engines and cutting edge in many ways. The only people who make comparisons purely based on HP/L or any other ricer spec are just ignorant. Hell, you're the one talking efficiency and HP/L surely isn't a measure of that. What efficiency are you talking here BSFC, mechanical, thermal, what? There are actually several DISADVANTAGES to an overhead cam design including size, cost, and mechanical efficiency just to list the most obvious three. As a rough comparison: just because the four cylinder spins twice as fast displacing the same amount as and 8 it's better? I've spent a good amount of time on a flow bench doing competitive analysis on the heads from an LS1, LS6, Porsche 944, BMW M54, Chevy Colorado, and a variety of Honda heads. Every one has impressed me in some way. I've also done complete tear-downs on several of these powerplants. In the end, every company (except the exotics) has price as the main CTQ. I'll admit that I'm young and I'm far from knowing everything. What I can say with confidence is that I've learned enough to be open to almost anything new or old. I went into that position thinking Honda engineering was superior to all and walked out with a completely different opinion.
Something to think about: GM put's a lot more effort into building an engine for the consumer than Honda does. Honda isn't trying to build something for you to modify and GM isn't exactly doing that either but they are keeping it in mind.

There not required, but w/o a doubt they are a better plug. I used to feel that the irdiums were a waste of money because the coppers work well, but after i actually used them i changed my opinion on them. I am a cheap bastard, and the irdiums are what I run in my own personal car. i pay 6 bucks a pop for them. They last longer and will fire at mixtures the coppers won't.

I am just going to have my machinist friend make me a spacer for my tranny.
I have to make up a gap of .023 to get it into the .004 tolerance spec. It is .027 to have the case tight and the spec says .000-.004
Current single spacer is .078 which would mean I need a .023 spacer to make this fit. Nearest shim is .026 but that leaves a gap of .007
I need to have a single .101 spacer or some kind of combo of 2 factory spacers to make this case close from the top because the pinion gear is exactly in the direct middle of the FD so I don't want to shim from the bottom.
This is using just the roller bearing shims but if I use the b18b1 snap ring shim in combo with the taper bearing flat washer shim I can get it to .0018 with factory shims.
Let me know how those work out on the street for you.... hahaha.

Gapping irdiums is very easy, if you do it with the right tool. Beating them on something to close the gap isnt the proper way to do it.

the way i see specing out transmissions is if it fits, it get installed. no more miles than i'm going to be putting on my d series build, i dont' give two fucks about how much the main shaft is shimmed. the case went back together, so im not worried about it. you can worry about it then go out there on the first pass and blow something out the case
but then again, i have about 4.3 spares laying around and don't give a shit since i'm a cheap nigglet

He will then trailer it down to Dave so he can do some top notch fabrication that will be lost in a engine bay that resembles a Haitian shanty town post earthquake. It will then be strapped down to the dyno with big promises of massive power only to further suck resources and time of some of the Honda scenes great tuners who will valiantly try to defeat this mechanical and electrical catastrophy. After a long and painfull battle it will run just long enough to sheer some teeth off a couple grears on the second pass on high boost. You are left in the end with a car that is about as useful as a garbage bag full of autistic babies. I will then smash this infested pile all the way down the track and main street. :noel:

I'm hoping to only take .0015" off or less. Luckily we only need one piston, I'm gonna get a hold of CP as well and see how much valve relief these pistons have, I might add some more if necessary. Dave, order the degree wheel, and add it to Levi's bill. Or Levi order it and have it shipped direct to Dave. At least this way with out a doubt everyone will know it is done and done right.
I have my doubts cars degree'd it at all. They probably just left it sit there for two weeks, and then when levi started pushing them for the motor, they said "oh yeah it's done come get it" charged him and never touched it.
Levi, look at Cars track record with Joel's motor, that thing has been rebuilt there like 6 times at least. Not saying Joel is the sharpest tool in the shed, but even still dart block, good rods, pistons, head... never did add up.
For the money and time you have put into this car, there is no point in "ball honing it and slapping it together" as WTM said you are ~$1000 and a couple weeks away from being at where your goal was for this weekend. It all sucks but it is part of a race car, they break all the time, and there are set backs all the time.
Take heed in the fact that the new harness and Tom's tune was able to get it to idle, and be driveable that was a big step forward.

They make more power than pro1's on my car anyway.
One footnote I should mention is that Sewell was talking about how something was wierd for a while but the car still made great power (mid 4's at 14-15 psi IIRC). The hindsight was that shit was hitting for a while, and the Ferrea's are fucking amazing.

True, the car hauled. It seemed like there was a bit of breakup very high in the rpm range, near 9000 or so. But I didn't really notice this until we were on the dyno, the day following a night full of ripping around bouncing off the rev limiter. Regardless as to the issue being v2v or p2v its funny it didn't break up earlier. It will be interesting to check the rest of the valve train out when I disassemble the head.

A few of the pistons had marks from PV contact. The intake cam was extremely advanced(ie full advanced on the cam gear). More advance=less PV clearance. I'd been saying i didnt think it was right from the beginning, but they were "degreed" in. I wish i woud have been told that it was the guys first time degreeing cams before this whole mishap.

The #3 piston had p2v marks on the intake side. I'm not doubtiing v2v issues, i just know i seen p2v marks. You'll know way more than when you take it apart. I'd love to say who cares, its already happened, but that could be a mistake.

levi, if you still need a head, i got a B16 head loaded, albeit stock, sitting here. It was on my drag that i parted out and sold a few years back. It was loaded with supertech springs and retainers and GSR cams. now its all stock with b16 cams.

GSR looks a lot like a B16 that's been milled so that it has quench pads. CC volumes are similar, so the chamber pocket is obviously a bit different, but for a decade plus Honda kids have been substituting the two heads willy-nilly without problems that would arise in other engine families.

Dave we nigger rigged a b16 IM onto a b18 head on Bnorth's car. It is really pretty straight forward, going that way, I assume the same in reverse.Other way around. I put Levis old B18c mani on my b16 head. It was easy cause S2 uses the same flange casting just have to drill the new hole pattern on it.

Well cams have been measured, the center lines match up. Only issues (that would have nothing to do with the engine failure) are that some of the lobes are out of square and some bad grinding on the base circle. Plenty worthy of warranty, and getting your money back, but not why the piston and valves were kissy kissy. Levi have you talked to the shop that degreed your cams yet?
V2V is nearly unheard of on a Honda. The valve seperation angle is sinply not wide enough for it to be a practical concern - save in weird situations like this one.
The issue with that is, just because they were "degreed in properly" doesnt mean there was sufficient p2v or v2v clearance. Even though we know they weren't degreed in properly.

And while this was ignorant, and we should have done something about it, its still weird it ran so good for so long before failure. I've just never seen a mechanical failure like this where the timing belt or cam gears hadn't worked themselves loose.

People make great power on 85mm turbo B-series, but I don't think they make the power Levi wants. I've heard of a bunch of 500-600 whp setups, though.

I run GE sleeves with o-rings...so far so good. I bought a 84mm HD sleeved GSR block from them I think it was 1200 shipped including the core block/mains (and old bolts)/girdle/oring grooves and a spool of copper wire.
Weird, I use stainless wire, but most of these heads I am doing are for 100+ psi.

This is the third Benson Block I know of PERSONALLY failing. I tend to think that th block was suspect all along. 2 heads? cmon, even if the machineing was messed up (I dont think it was) twice??? I thought the block needed to be looked at from the jump the first time. Everything else was (suspect)..... I have yet to know anyone whose had a GE block fail. Not 1.
Not that there arent other options, and not that I dont think the (new) crew are semi retarded but if I were going to do another block, It would mos def be GE.

i have both the new style(same as above) and the older style GE hd sleaves. same as above but with bigger but fewer support fingers both work great.

Using an entry level performance sleeve in a high performance application, when Darton makes a GE-equivalent closed deck sleeve, and getting installer error/lack of customer support tied up with the Brand of sleeve used is horseshit, sir. Darton makes fine sleeves, makes more sleeves in a year than GE has ever made period, so please keep your anti-Darton comments out of this. Nobody cares that you love the taste of Robert's penis.
